Traveling to Australia from the U.S. We
have been back and forth since 1980 and it always changes. Currently
there are new agreements between our countries so there will be
more changes coming. We usually fly at the peak season and search
for the lower cost opportunities. Qantas offers the nicest service and
United is similar as far as costs and routes. Air New Zealand offers
stops in Auckland and The South Pacific. We have been flying lately via
Hawaiian Air connecting with Jetstar in Honolulu. This year that meant
a night or two in Hawaii en route. I found a local Hawaiian booking
agent to book
hotel rooms at a good price, on short notice, on any island. We flew
into
Honolulu from
Sydney and were able to get a great room upon arrival, we did have to
wait until 3p.m. to check in after a night of flying. We also had to
pick up
food for the Jetstar flights but it still worked out. This is the low cost option. You do have the option to buy food in flight. Not like it used
to be! Once in
Sydney there are flights to Avalon Airport which is about 45 minutes
from our
house. You must change from International to Domestic at the
Sydney Airport via an airport shuttle bus for $5. each. Jetstar does not
check bags through from International to Domestic. You have to carry
your bags and check in. Your baggage allowances then becomes the
Domestic amount. If you arrive in Melbourne at Tullamarine
Airport, there is an airporter bus to Geelong Station connecting to a
bus service to Ocean Grove that stops directly in front of our house.
My best advice for
jetlag is to stay awake on local time wherever you are and a walk on the
beach.
